The Results Are In!
And it’s clear – your leadership style is EMPATHY.
We’ll talk a bit more later about what can get in your way, but first…
Let’s take a moment to celebrate your strengths and the impact you crate by using them every day.
You spend a lot of time listening to people, don’t you?
You come alive when you can create space for someone to share what they are thinking and how they are feeling, and you listen as long as it takes…
People feel seen by you every day…
You take time to ask, then carefully listen to make sure you understand their perspective, and that enables you to connect with others at a deeper level.
That is what makes you stand out.
And even though you are not yet as good as you can become, you are in a great position to develop and grow, because you are driven to understand how everything fits together – and that is what people want more of from you.
Your real strength lies in your ability to grasp what is not being said to help others discover the answers they need – you believe the way they feel matters.
Here’s the thing, though…all your talent and ability cannot be unleashed without an understanding of your Leadership Identity Gaps.
And we ALL have gaps.
Aspire Leadership teaches emerging leaders to move beyond their gaps and leverage their gifts to increase their influence and impact – to become the best leaders they can be by putting people first.
Our work over the years in our own companies and with hundreds of companies and organizations we’ve had the privilege of serving (along with the many mistakes we’ve made ourselves) led us to an important realization.
There are three daily disciplines great leaders use to build influence and deliver impact:
CURIOSITY
Curiosity is the emotion or behavior of being curious – the never-ending desire to seek and gain knowledge or information to understand. Curiosity drives growth.
HUMILITY
Humility is acknowledging you know there are things you know and things you do not know – admitting you don’t know all the questions or all the answers. Humility builds trust.
EMPATHY
Empathy is the ability to see things from another’s point of view – to recognize, understand, and share their thoughts and feelings. Empathy creates connection.
As one who leads with empathy, whether you are leading a strategy session, facilitating a debriefing conversation, or coaching a team member, you want to engage effectively and you rely on empathy to learn how best to guide the process.
That is a great way to build the team and engage with them.
But there is a problem…
it is just NOT ENOUGH.
Because until you master the daily disciplines of Curiosity, Humility, and Empathy you will keep a lid on your potential.
Granted, you will be more effective than most leaders, but true greatness will remain beyond your grasp.
And there is a way to bridge the gap…
It starts with understanding where you are with respect to each of these disciplines – identifying your current leadership identity gaps so you can create an action plan for eliminating them (or at least mitigating their impacts).
